This isn't the normal adventure I would surprise you with. This one is a bit more subtle and not as courageous but it was worth it. I believe I needed to see it. This travel adventure opened my eyes to the many options I have after high school. To a degree it was overwhelming.
I had the wonderful chance to go visit University of Alaska Anchorage, UAA for short. This was an eye opener. I visited the welding and automotive career classes and was truthfully, quite excited. The programs offered at the school showed me the many opportunities I could grasp on to. There were many great people there, willing to show me everything, give me a tour, invite me to join the school! I still have three years of high school, which in my eyes gives me three years to prepare. UAA will be one of my options for my future, if I decide to go to college.
When I was in middle school and at the beginning of high school the thought of preparing and thinking about what to do for a career never really crossed my mind. Then, I was asked if this trip was something I wanted to do. At first I said no then thought about it once more. I decided to go at last minute. I am so ecstatic that I went. I believe this is the type of prep work schools should start doing for their students. It would encourage, empower and open their eyes to just how much is out there. You can be whatever you want to be, you just have to work at it. And, if you go to college, pay lots of money (sad face) but in the end its so worth it. I haven't made it that far yet, so I guess I can't say its worth it but in my bones I know it is.
I encourage everyone I know to visit colleges and start preparing. It could get you so far in life. The work is worth it. I believe in you, even though I have no idea who you are. You can make it!
